SHABNAM
CLINICAL & SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST
Hi! My name is Shabnam and I am a Registered Clinical and School Psychologist here at Wintergreen and Winston Park Medical Centre. I specialize in psychoeducational assessments and individual therapy for children and adolescents between the ages of 6 to 21 years. I am dedicated to creating a nurturing environment where clients can feel comfortable and supported.
Why Work With Me
I am a Clinical and School Psychologist registered with The College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario. Additionally I am also a member of the Ontario Psychological Association. (M.Ed., OCT., C. Psych).
With extensive experience in both clinical and educational settings, I specialize in providing comprehensive psychoeducational assessments and interventions for children and adolescents. I am dedicated to helping families understand their children’s learning/cognitive strengths and challenges, and to developing practical, realistic plans to support them both at home and at school.
My Approach
I also provide psychotherapy for children and adolescents facing various mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, and ADHD, using primarily a cognitive-behavioural (CBT) approach. I provide compassionate care, and strive to create a safe, non-judgmental space, enabling me to connect with my clients in a genuine and approachable manner. I approach each client through a comprehensive understanding of their cultural context— considering family, ethnicity, gender, professional life, sexuality, developmental stage, generational background, education, religion, disability, immigration status, and socioeconomic status. This holistic perspective allows me to tailor support to each individual’s needs.
My experience working within the school board setting equips me with the system knowledge and expertise to assist families in understanding and navigating special education services. I collaborate closely with schools to achieve the best outcomes for children and adolescents.
As a younger clinician, I offer a unique advantage in understanding current societal expectations, and the influence of social media. My relatability to adolescents enables me to establish strong therapeutic relationships, fostering an environment where they feel comfortable and safe to be vulnerable. This connection is crucial for effective therapy and assessments, allowing me to better support and guide them through their challenges. For parents, this means their child is receiving care from someone who is not only well-versed in contemporary issues but also adept at engaging with them in a meaningful and supportive manner.
