EMMA

REGISTERED PHYSIOTHERAPIST

Hi! My name is Emma. I am a founding member of Wintergreen Physiotherapy and Sports Medicine Clinic. My passion for physiotherapy stems from growing up as a competitive gymnast and gymnastics coach. As a gymnast, I experienced firsthand the injuries and setbacks that can occur during training and competition. I understand how injuries can immensely impact your life, causing physical limitations, pain, and emotional distress. Through my  personal experiences with injuries and rehabilitation, I realized the impact physiotherapy had on my own life. Physiotherapy helped me to regain strength, and confidence, allowing me to return to the sport I loved. My personal challenges made me realize I wanted to help others undergo the same positive changes in their lives!

Why Work With Me

I started my journey to becoming a physiotherapist studying Gerontology at the University of Guelph. I chose to study older adults because growing up, my grandparents were very special to me. As they grew older I became more aware of the difficult challenges older adults can face. This course allowed me to better understand the physiological aspects of aging, and this knowledge helps me now as a physiotherapist in tailoring my treatment plans that address age-related conditions and challenges such as osteoporosis, arthritis, and balance deficits. Incorporating gerontological principles helps me optimize my patients’ independence, improve quality of life, and promote healthy aging!

I then travelled to beautiful Edinburgh, Scotland to get my Master's in Physiotherapy. I was lucky to spend time in several hospitals across Scotland getting experience in several areas of physiotherapy like Neurology (Stroke, and traumatic brain injuries), Cardiorespiratory (COPD, asthma, and pulmonary rehabilitation), Acute Hand therapy, Pelvic health, and Musculoskeletal clinics. If you are unsure if physiotherapy is the right path for you please reach out to learn more about how I can help you.

My Approach

With a warm smile and genuine kindness, I greet my patients, making them feel valued and at ease. I am here to listen and work together in developing a treatment plan that will work best for you. My approach to physiotherapy treatment is patient centred, focusing on understanding the specific needs and goals of each person. I prioritize keeping up with the latest evidence-based practice to optimize your recovery journey. I plan to commit to being a lifelong learner and continue learning and specializing as my career develops. You will find I am very compassionate and empathetic which fosters a strong therapeutic relationship, encouraging you to feel confident that you are in good hands.

My goal as your physiotherapist is to provide you with great care involving manual therapeutic techniques, educate and guide you on your treatment options, and provide you with at-home self-management strategies you can utilize throughout your daily life. I encourage you to please ask questions and address any concerns you may have before, during, and after treatment.
